II CONFERENCE OF THE PROGRAMME ON ECOSYSTEM CHANGE AND SOCIETY
The communities around the ancient Zapotec capital of Monte Albán have different productive projects supported by the National Institute of Social Economy. Through the centuries, these communities have developed craft skills of singular beauty. In addition, they have supported mechanisms of local development and conservation based on these economic activities. The field trip includes a visit to the archaeological site of Monte Alban, the most important site in the Valley of Oaxaca.

Social-Ecological Problems
Lack of access to economic resources for carrying out their ancestral activities related with crafts. Environmental degradation associated with overexploitation of local natural resources and few opportunities for the implementation of concervation activities.

Local handicrafts producers. Visitors to the archaeological zone and local authorities.

Productive projects have been implemented based on the scheme of Social Economy as a solid tool to achieve sustainable development.

8:30-9:30 Visit to project of traditional table linen making: Group of vulnerable communities who have been reintegrated into society through the production of traditional linen woven on pedal looms.
9:30-10:30 Visit to a traditional glazed clay workshop: handicrafts of glazed clay (lead-free)
10:30-12:00 San Agustín Etla (Visit to the project paper handcrafts based on natural pulp paper)
12:00-13:30 Comida
14:00-17:30 Visit to the Monte Alban archaeological site
18:00 Return to Oaxaca City
